Computers have been a part of my life since I was a young child. Growing up, I was quickly drawn to the potential of the technological world and I began experimenting with computers from a very early age. I eventually put together my own computer with second-hand parts from my local electronics store. It was first computer building project, and it opened a world of possibilities for me—from gaming to networking and programming.
In my teenage years, I began to explore the more advanced aspects of computer science and transitioned to coding and systems design. I began to appreciate the application of theory to practical application and the creativity required to create new systems. As I entered high school, I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in computer science and firmly planned to do this by attending an Ivy League college.
To prepare for college studies and to gain experience in the field of computer science, I took part in several internships and summer programs at such places as Microsoft and Symantec. My experience as an intern exposed me to the very technical details of computer programming and software development, giving me opportunities to test and experiment with the coding involved. This experience was invaluable in providing me with the basic skills to develop applications. Additionally, during this time I also took part in several online courses on data structures and algorithms and studied a range of topics in mathematics, such as calculus and statistics. These courses have built a strong knowledge base for my transition to college-level studies.
I understand that studying and pursuing a career in computer science at an Ivy League school is no mean feat. However, I believe I possess the qualities and experience to make a successful student in this highly competitive environment. I believe that my natural aptitude and passion for the sciences, combined with my thorough academic preparation, will enable me to grasp complex theories and apply them in practice. Furthermore, my passion for technology and ambition to succeed in this field of study are sure to drive me to exceed expectations.
My primary reasons for applying to an Ivy League school, and in particular to study computer science, are to gain the opportunity to be a part of the cutting-edge innovators of the future, to contribute to the development of complex technologies and to further hone my skills under the guidance of some of the world’s greatest computer scientists.
As a student of computer science, I believe I have to potential to excel in this field and to become a valuable asset to the university. My creative and analytical skills, combined with my passion, drive and discipline, make me a suitable candidate for admittance. I am confident I have much to contribute to an Ivy League college in the field of computer science and I am excited for the opportunity to reach my full potential.
